Dr. Alexis P. Shelokov

Alexis P. Shelokov, M.D, President of Consulting Orthopedists, is an orthopedic spine surgeon who treats spinal diseases: specifically pediatric and adult scoliosis, spinal tumors and degenerative conditions of the spine. In practice for more than 12 years, he has performed more than 6,000 spinal operations. Dr. Shelokov is one of only a few dozen surgeons in the United States who regularly perform scoliosis revision surgery on children and adults who have had unsuccessful treatment in the past.

In addition to his abilities as a spinal surgeon, Dr. Shelokov has developed several medical devices including a cost-effective disposable spinal instrument system to decrease the cost of patient care, spinal implants to aid in spinal fusion, and a patent-pending artificial disc replacement currently under evaluation for introduction in the United States.

After living abroad for much of his childhood, Dr. Shelokov graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. He attended medical school in Dallas at The University of Texas Health Science Center Southwestern Medical School followed by an internal medicine internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. Dr. Shelokov pursued postgraduate training at the distinguished Harvard Surgical Service in Boston, Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, and served as the Chief Resident at the Boston Veteran Administration Hospital. Upon completion of residency, he spent 2 1/2 additional years training to become a spinal surgeon with three fellowships at the Texas Scottish Rite in Dallas, Southwestern Medical School/Texas Back Institute, and later as the recipient of the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation traveling fellowship grant, a position at the St. Vincent de Paul Hospital in Paris, France.

Dr. Shelokov is board certified by both the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Board of Spine Surgeons. He also is a member of the American Medical Association, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the North American Spine Society, the Texas Spine Society, the American College of Physician Executives, and the Dallas County Medical Society.

He has written or presented more than 30 medical and scientific papers. Additionally, he is currently one of only a handful of U. S. surgeons who implants miniature pumps in the body to deliver medications directly into the spinal fluid. These amazing devices are used to treat children with severe spasticity from cerebral palsy, and adults with chronic, incapacitating pain.
