The Southwest Scoliosis Institute proudly announces the affiliation of Dr. Michael F. O’Brien with our Practice. Dr. O’Brien brings years of research and exceptional expertise in the area of complex spinal surgery. His passion and commitment to the spinal deformity field has lead him to worldwide status. He and Dr. Richard Hostin will launch their partnership beginning January 2010.

Our Scoliosis Practice

The Southwest Scoliosis Institute is committed to providing quality care in a private setting. Our team is comprised of surgeons, therapists, nurses and administrative staff whose primary goal is to help you get better and make the journey as comfortable as possible.

We currently work with most health care plans, coordinate care with your insurance company, and manage all paperwork regarding your care. We also have many patients from abroad and offer Concierge Services for those traveling to the United States for medical care with the Southwest Scoliosis Institute.

 

The Southwest Scoliosis Institute (formally Consulting Orthopedists) opened on the campus of Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano in early 2005 because of the vision of the late Alexis P. Shelokov, M.D., orthopedic and spine surgeon who specialized in the treatment of scoliosis. As the founding physician of the Southwest Scoliosis Institute, Dr. Shelokov left a legacy of bringing hope to many patients who suffered from severe spinal deformities.

"There have been huge advances in identification, intervention and management of spinal curves. Bracing technology which used to manage moderate curves has been greatly refined. Now, the medical community is challenged to provide better continuity of care from adolescence through adulthood and to integrate treatment into a meaningful continuum." – Alexis P. Shelokov, M.D.

Through his leadership, the Southwest Scoliosis Institute offers patients continuity of care. Patients of all ages are treated at the Institute, from adolescents to adults. Families whose children are treated at the Institute will also be treated at the Institute once they reach adulthood. This approach allows the long-term treatment plan to be implemented without interruption.

Consulting Orthopedists and the Baylor Health Care System are proud to announce a national center of excellence in scoliosis diagnosis, research, and treatment - The Baylor Scoliosis Center - now open at the Baylor Regional Medical Center in Plano and Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth.
